Promoting and engaging our citizens into effective crime-reduction strategies, our Safe Neighborhoods and Communities Action Team serves as the heart of Safe Yakima Valley’s mission and vision. This Action Team works with all of our other Teams in various capacities, furthering the overall goal of creating a safer Yakima Valley by addressing specific crime-reduction strategies.

– Organizing and expanding the Community Block Watch program.

– Collaborating with local law enforcement to address problem areas and improvements.

– Working closely with the Graffiti Action Team to teach our citizens and business owners how to improve their property to discourage graffiti.

– Developing methods to deter gang activity and involvement.

– Promoting positive family and youth-oriented activities and organizations.



Our Community Benchmarks and Assessment Action Team collects and interprets data regarding crime and the quality of life in Yakima County, in addition to measuring the effectiveness of Safe Yakima Valley programs and initiatives.


There is no over-night solution to our drug problems. This is an unfortunate reality, but through the efforts of many talented individuals and community leaders, we continue to make constant steps in the right direction.

Our Action Team has two main goals:

1) Establish and strengthen collaboration among communities, private nonprofit agencies and Federal, State and local governments to support the efforts of our community coalitions to prevent and reduce substance abuse among youth.

2) Reduce substance abuse among youth and, over time, among adults by addressing the factors in our community that increase the risk of substance abuse and promote the factors that minimize the risk of substance abuse.
